Architecture comprises building design, urban and traffic planning, where aesthetics is joined with functional, technical, practical and economic dimensions in relation to people, sustainability, landscape, and the built environment.
The work will be carried out in the Architecture group of Luleå University of technology in Luleå. The research field is multi-disciplinary and of both a scientific and an applied nature including fields such as architecture, urban planning, and transport. The PhD student will work with participatory design methods, building-integrated energy thinking, heritage value assessment methods, and energy system engineering in real case studies. All the scientific work will be presented in English in articles in scientific journals.
The basic requirement for education at the research level is that one has 1) been awarded a degree at an advanced level, 2) completed courses giving at least 240 university credits, of which at least 60 university credits are at an advanced level, or 3) in some other way either in this country or abroad acquired the corresponding knowledge. We are looking for a talented and motivated colleague who can both alone and in cooperation with others carry out advanced research in our research group. The applicant should preferably have a background in architecture, urban planning/design, building conservation, or similar. It is an advantage if you have previous experience in practice and/or scientific publication. Knowledge of digital software for building and urban simulation (e.g., ArcGIS & Pro, parametric design, and micro-climate simulation, etc.) is an additional merit.
The applicant is expected to carry out her/his doctoral studies full-time in connection with the project described. LuleÃ¥ University of Technology undertakes to provide excellent working conditions, active support from a qualified supervisory group and a proposal for a doctoral education that will lead to a doctorâs degree in Architecture. An active participation in the further development of the international research society will be encouraged. The applicant shall be a good team-player with a good knowledge of both oral and written English. Knowledge of the Swedish language is not a requirement, but the applicant should be prepared within a few years to be able to carry out tasks which require an understanding of Swedish.
Fulltime fixed-termed employment for four year (up to maximum five years) regulated by the Swedish Higher Education ordinance. Departmental duties (e.g. teaching) up to 20 % of fulltime can also occur. The appointment is planned to start on January 2021. Location: Luleå.
